Aimee's recommended reading...The Pathway, by Laurel Mellin is a wonderful book that discusses the roots of habitual excesses and offers a sound, scientifically proven solution to dealing with emotional hunger that drive us to behavioral solutions which are not in our best interests. When followed, the results are absolutely life changing. A must read for those ready & dedicated to making a life change. Laurel Mellin’s first book, The Solution deals specifically with the six root causes of obesity and outlines the necessary skills one needs to cultivate to lose weight permanently. Recommended to me by a client, I found Jill Flemming’s book Thin people don't clean their plates to be full of helpful, realistic tips and ideas on how to change habits and live thin! Eating on the Run is a fantastic resource for people who live in their car. Evelyn offers fast food alternatives that will not clog your arteries and damage your waistline, suitable recipes that are quick and easy to prepare, and overall helpful hints for sound nutrition on the go. Picture Perfect Weight Loss is a wonderful book visually depicting the amount of various foods in a certain calorie level. Dr. Shapiro does an excellent job demonstrating how healthier food choices in restaurants can save hundreds of calories - often while providing you with more food! A must-see for the visual learner! Detox Diet by Elson Haas, MD outlines various programs designed to help the body detox from a variety of stressors such as nicotine, caffeine, sugar, and drugs. There are helpful recipes, a chapter on living as non-toxically as possible and a discussion of digestive health. A fantastic book with a whole foods, natural approach to healing from within! Eat Drink and Be Healthy by Walter Willett, MD busts through the USDA food guide pyramid. Dr. Willet expertly presents the limitations of the Food Guide Pyramid and offers a healthier alternative based on epidemiological research, not special interest groups. Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser is nothing short of an expose on the dark side of the fast food industry. Detailing the strategic marketing strategies to lure children into life-long customers, the chemical brew that makes proprietary flavors in French fries and burgers, and the still-crude nature of the meatpacking industry, it will forever change how you look at fast food.
