Beth;

Many probiotics are sourced from dairy, and it can be difficult to find one without. Often a naturopathic doctor or other alternative health practitioner will carry probiotics with more strict standards to ensure they are allergy free. In lieu of this, some of the dairy-free food options above may be your best bet. Have you tried cultured foods?

I have recently begun taking a refrigerated probiotic with lots of bacteria strains. I am severely lactose intolerant and it has begun giving me stomach problems. From the blog entry above, I am gathering that any probiotic I would purchase has dairy in it? All those I considered at the health food store said there may be traces of soy or dairy in them. I am now searching for a probiotic supplement that is not processed from a dairy protein. Am I searching in vain? I plan to try some of the other sources listed above, but still thought I would look for a supplement as well. Any info. you can give would be appreciated. Thanks.

Zeke,

This is actually something i have been meaning to get to myself for some time. I did not post a home recipe because I have not made it myself yet. Once I try it and get the hang of it I would definitely post and share the information with others. Thanks for commenting!

I'm surprised you didn't mention how to make sauerkraut at home. All you need to do is thinly slice some cabbage, and then, in a mason jar, put a layer f cabbage and sprinkle on a little sea salt. Then smah and repeat until the jar is full. Let it ferment for a few days to a couple weeks and you have homemade kraut!
